How you begin your day matters. Before the noise of to-do lists, messages, and others’ demands, there is a quiet moment to choose yourself.
This morning practice for grounding is one I do daily, often before even leaving bed. It helps me start from a calm, embodied place, tuning into my body and energy. It supports me emotionally and energetically, and I have noticed it positively shapes how I move through the rest of the day. The practice does not take long, usually about 20 minutes. Feel free to adapt it to what feels right for you, skipping or changing steps as needed to make it your own.
☀️ 1. Upon Waking (3 to 5 minutes)
Ease into your body gently before the mind takes over. While still in bed:
Place one hand on your heart and one on your belly.
Take 3 to 5 deep belly breaths (inhale for 4, exhale for 6).
Whisper to yourself:
“I am safe in my body. I trust myself. I begin slowly.”
Optional: If you are Reiki-attuned, you can send Reiki to your solar plexus or sacral chakra.
🌿 2. Grounding into the Present Moment (1 to 5 minutes)
Select one or more of the following to come into your body and your space:
5-4-3-2-1 Technique
Name 5 things you see, 4 you hear, 3 you can touch, 2 you smell, and 1 you taste.
Butterfly Hug
Cross your arms over your chest and tap your shoulders left-right-left-right while breathing slowly and deeply.
Grounding Movement
Gently bounce or stomp in place and visualize roots growing from your feet into the earth.
🔊 3. Voo Breath (2 to 4 minutes)
This is a calming breath practice I love.
How to do it:
Sit comfortably with your feet flat on the floor.
Inhale deeply through your nose and fill your belly.
As you exhale, make a long low “Voooooo” sound from your chest.
Let the sound carry until your breath runs out.
Pause and notice how your body feels.
Repeat 3 to 5 times.
💬 Affirmation
“I come back to my body. I’m allowed to feel calm.”
🧘 4. Heart Expansion Visualization (2 to 3 minutes)
This helps me feel more connected and present.
Visualize an elevator gently dropping from your head into your heart.
Take 3 deep breaths while imagining warm light expanding from your chest.
Let that light move through your body and the space around you.
💬 Affirmation
“I drop into my truth. My presence is powerful.”
✍️ 5. Emotional Check-In and Journaling (3 to 5 minutes)
Give space to what you’re feeling. You don’t need to fix it, just witness it.
Write or reflect on:
What emotion is alive in me right now?
Where do I feel it in my body?
What does this part of me need?
💬 Affirmation
“It’s okay to feel this. I am safe, and I allow myself to release with love.”
🎯 6. Daily Clarity and Action Anchor (2 to 3 minutes)
A short practice to create intentional energy for your day.
In your journal or planner:
Write one aligned action you will take today.
Choose one word you want to feel (for example, grounded, focused, free).
Choose a somatic anchor to come back to later (for example, placing your hand on your heart, humming, or going outside for a moment).
💬 Affirmation
“This step aligns me with my truth. I move with clarity.”
🧠 7. Gentle Affirmations to Use Anytime
Keep these close by for moments when you need to return to yourself:
“Right now, I am here.”
“It’s okay to slow down.”
“I can feel and still be okay.”
“I do not need to shrink to be loved.”
“I am safe to be seen.”
📅 Optional Weekly Flow
If you enjoy structure, try this rhythm:
Monday, Wednesday, Saturday: Movement or shaking to discharge energy.
Tuesday and Thursday: Voo breath and heart expansion.
Friday: Practice something joyful or magnetic.
Sunday: Emotional or energetic reset.
🌙 Evening Wind-Down (Optional)
To help your system settle before bed:
Do one or two rounds of Voo Breath.
Butterfly Hug while reflecting on the day.
Place your hands on your belly and heart and whisper: “I’ve done enough. I am enough.”
Final Thoughts 💛
You don’t have to be an expert to create meaningful rituals for yourself. This practice supports me in feeling more grounded, more centered, and more prepared to face whatever the day brings. It’s gentle, flexible, and personal. Try what resonates, skip what doesn’t, and always listen to what your body needs most.
You are allowed to begin slowly. You are allowed to feel safe and supported. You are allowed to start your day in your own energy.
